There are some days when I really miss my old hair… the long silky locks that cascaded down my back. Oh wait, that’s wrong. They were long, unruly locks that often fell flat and refused to obey without much styling and random threats of “I will cut you OFF, so help me GOD!”
And so one day, I did cut it all off. And ya’ll were here to witness the results and offer much needed moral support, because HOLY HELL I cut off all my hair! Please tell me I don’t look like some totally BUTCH LESBIAN or a MIDDLE AGED MOTHER! Or BOTH!
It’s grown since I got the haircut, but I still like it on most days. I usually style it all flippy and bed-head-y, just to avoid the MIDDLE AGED MOM/BUTCH look at all costs. Now it’s long enough that I can straighten it with my flat iron and I get a sleek cute little bob outta the deal. So, Mama likey.
But of course, I could NEVER just leave well enough alone. I’m contemplating ways in which I can change things up again. I’m considering some HIGHLIGHTS. I have had plenty of highlights in the past, and used to be quite blonde. Now, I am back at pretty much my natural hair color and I think it looks boring sometimes. Especially since it is summer, I wonder if some caramel or blondish streaks might look pretty.
SO, HELP A GIRL OUT! HIGHLIGHTS: YEA OR NAY? Leave your vote in the comments. Also, if you’d like to tell me to stop being such an indecisive, narcissistic bitch, feel free to do that as well.
I vote no highlights because I love the richness to the color right now. Makes your eyes pop!
I love your new hair and say yes to caramel highlights also. I have very dark brown hair and no matter how much I might be in the sun it never lightens up. So, I too got some highlights and I love them. Go for it!!!!
Tough call. I love the richness of your color. But, I, too, agree caramel highlights would look great.
Either way? You’ll still rock the hair so, it’s all good
While I completely understand your need for change (I have short hair because I constantly want change and eventually that’s what happens!) I would tell you to try to resist the highlights. The maintenance on them is such a pain (and so $$$).
I really love your short do – it looks great on you!
If I didn’t have to highlight my hair because of the pesky grey coming in I wouldn’t. You’ve got a beautiful color going there, I wouldn’t mess with it.
Your hair looks fabulous!
I have to say your hair color au natural is beautiful. I think there’s always something about the summer and adding in highlights. I say go for it, but your hair also looks great as-is. Yeah, I’m really no help, am I?
Seeing as how the indecisiveness and need to change up our looks must run in the family I say – GO FOR IT! I think you are totally rockin’ the new hairdo and you look super sassy!!!
Just keep in mind that there will be maintenance and the expense can be a little much. For a “Summer Do” I would vote for a partial with high & low lights and would say chuckier highlights are better.
Can’t wait to see what you decide!
I think highlights would look great!
I really love your hair color and don’t think it’s boring at all!
Of course, I also love a good highlight, so I’m sure that would look great too.
I SO love your new ‘Do! It really suits you! I am getting mine shorter next week – had to keep in long for Glastonbury festival this weekend – NEEDED to be able to tie back with FIVE days of no hair washing! ARGH! Anyway! I am all blonde, bleach blonde right now – purpose – dry hair out to a crisp to avoid grease for five days in a field with no hair cleansing facilities…
SO! I figure… you have a nice house WITH a shower. I LOVE you natural colour – it is SO shiny! I do think though, that if you were to get get a combination of low and high lights – a couple of different colours – it would add a bit more *superficial* body and texture. I am a bit of hair aficionado, and I know that after experipenting with colour that you have to find the right balance between your cut and your colours – UNLESS
..I hit return then..
… UNLESS you can be bothered to style for an hour or so everyday! Personally, I can if it something worth styling for, otherwise no… so, there is a need for low maintenance. Obviously, I feel with a low maintenance cut and colour – which looks good mas o menos all of the time, it is always going to look even better when there is a high maintenance time taken over it… no? xxxxxxx
HIGHLIGHTS! HIGHLIGHTS! HIGHLIGHTS!
I recently went through the same exact experience. Coming out of winter hibernation, with an extra 18lbs after giving birth and having not colored my hair in 2 years because I was pregnant, I needed something to “feel pretty” and new eyeshadow wasn’t going to cut it. I got a bunch cut off and got some honey and blond highlights. I am a new woman. Cute new cut for you.

Your hair still looks really cute like this! I vote yes on the highlights… but maybe caramel rather than blonde, because I really like your natural color!
