Unemployed Winner!!

3 Mar

I must admit I am one of the one million people who is following Charlie Sheen (and his mental breakdown) on Twitter.  I can’t help it.  As a journalist, I’m conditioned to stare at the train wreck, not look away from it.  It’s not that I am callous or really enjoy other people’s problems.  I just think that there’s bad and good in everything, in every person’s life.  Documenting the bad helps us put the good in perspective, and appreciate it all the more.

So back to Charlie.  He identifies himself on his Twitter profile as an “unemployed winner!”  And that immediately made me think of my dear husband, who is currently both unemployed and a WINNER! True story.

Jason was laid off in December.  MERRY CHRISTMAS! Or not.  The good news is that between his severance and unemployment, we’ve been just fine.  We also have enough in our emergency fund to keep us fed, warm, and happy for a good deal of time.  So we aren’t panicking or anything.  Can I just say I am so proud of my husband?  He is working his tail off in his job search.  Even with the economy and the slow job market he is getting really close to landing a great opportunity.

We do need for him to get that perfect job in the next couple of months, because MONEY= GOOD!  But I will be sad to see him leave every weekday once again.  We’ve been enjoying our extended vacation with Daddy.  He contributes so much with the kids and around the house.  Every time I turn around Jason is doing another load of laundry, emptying the dishwasher, prepping for dinner, or playing with the kids.  I, um, seriously don’t want to be the sole stay-at-home-parent anymore.  Having another adult around to hang out with and share the burden with is so awesome.  Um, except for the “no money” thing. Meh.

What this all adds up to, is that my husband is my UNEMPLOYED WINNER! Take that, Charlie Sheen.  You might not qualify for unemployment or food stamps thanks to your billions, but DUDE.  Charlie, you could take a few lessons from my husband… he’s got the TIGER BLOOD, the ADONIS DNA, and he is also decidedly not BATSHIT INSANE.  That’s a WINNER, right there.

OK, so he sort of looks like he is insane.

It’s so hard to want two opposite things so much! :) But I know you will always cherish that you had these few months with all 4 of you together all week!

We have loved it! Everyone asks if I am “sick of having him around.” I’m like, no way!
