Insanity

13 Apr

Wow, life is certainly crazy at the moment.  Crazy in a good way, really, but keeping us on our toes.  Let’s discuss some of the recent developments here in La Casa de Tooptumber.

  • My husband has a job!  A wonderful new job!  With a great salary and benefits!  I KNEW that he was on the verge of something good and now he’s starting his new job in a matter of weeks.  Hallelujah.
  • The new job is back in our home state of Maryland, a good hour and 20 minute drive from our current home in Pennsylvania.
  • This means we have put our house on the market and fingers are crossed for a sale soon.  This ALSO means that I am in full-on OCD mode.  Most people straighten up the house and fix any glaring issues before listing.  I, on the other hand, have dreams of this place looking like a model home.  To that end, I have touched up the paint in every room of the house, put up some wallpaper, scrubbed the bathrooms to within an inch of their lives, repainted the front door, planted flowers, reorganized the house so nary a child’s toy can be seen (hint: STORAGE OTTOMANS, I would like to french kiss you!), reorganized each closet, and pretty much gone insane.
  • Also, did you know how much goddamned fun it is to keep a house in showing condition whilst also occupying said house with two small children and two hairy dogs?  Please pass the alcohol.
  • Related to the above:  I have rediscovered my affection for the occasional glass of Diet Coke and Malibu Rum.  Come to mama….  (No, kid, I wasn’t talking to YOU.  I was speaking to my sweet, delicious coconutty drink.)
  • Also related to the above:  Did you know you can spend HOURS online each day perusing Maryland Real Estate listings?  Don’t ask me how I know this.
  • One more:  we think we found our dream home.  It is perfection. But we have to do this one pesky thing before attempting to purchase said dream home.  We gotta sell this house we live in right now.  Real Estate Gods, please be kind to us.

There’s more going on, which I won’t detail right now, because I need to go scrub the floor with a toothbrush.  (Oh you think I am kidding?)  Like all the kids’ crazy shenanigans.  Aiden is hilarious and kind and is lately loving when I read grown up kids books (with CHAPTERS!) to him.  He’s the best kid ever.  Lilah is feisty and smart and learning new words every day.  She is the perfect combination of crazy, funny, snuggly, and sweet.

I think this puts it best:

Aiden: “Mom, I’m not a baby.”

Kelly:  “What are you?”

Aiden: “I am a boy. And do you know what Lilah is?”

Kelly:  (expecting to hear ‘girl’ and launch into a conversation about anatomy)

Aiden: “Lilah is a stinker!”

That’s life right now. Crazy, up-in-the-air, chaotic, hilarious.  And oh, so good.

Holy smokes on the home selling-front!

I think I would crap a brick having to be ready to escape at a moment’s notice should someone want to see the house. Sounds hellacious and hard and…oh, this isn’t helping, is it?

I am SO happy to hear of the job for the husband. I remember when you tweeted before the holidays what had happened and I couldn’t believe the crap timing.

    So, YAY FOR JOBS!

It is sort of hellacious. But also exciting! Just trying to keep my eyes on the prize! And HELL YES yay for jobs!

oh wow! That would make me nuts! Please pass the alcohol indeed :)
Best of luck to you guys, hoping your house sells and you get your dream house and everything works out the way it’s supposed to!

First – Congrats to your hubby on the great job!

As for selling the house, I totally feel for you on this! When we put our house on the market last summer, it was brutal having to have it “show ready” constantly with two kids. And I’m like you in that it had to be perfect, and I spent so much time and energy making that happen! And all for freaking nothing! (We ended up having to rent it out). Best of luck to you – hope you get it sold!!
