Pirate Party Success!

7 Jun

Aiden’s 4th birthday party went wonderfully on Saturday.  The weather was perfect, the guests all had fun, and most importantly, my sweet guy had a great time!  I could write about the party, but the pictures really tell a better story.  We had a great day celebrating our boy.

The invitations we made.  Aiden loved helping me burn the edges and BONUS! We didn’t set the house on fire!

I outsourced the cake and it was a goooood decision.  I had so many other details to worry about, so getting this from the bakery was a big help.

Captain Aiden.

With his first mate, Daddy.

Ready for pirate ship races!  Thanks to Alison for the great idea!

These were easy, made out of diaper boxes and spray painted.  The kids really enjoyed them!

Aiden with Mama and Daddy.

The boys are ready to race!!

Go Aiden, go!!!!

Digging for buried treasure.

Pin the Parrot on the Pirate.

Argggh! Time for cake!

Aiden and his playgroup buddies.  They’ve been friends since the age of 18 months.

I want to mention one thing that was great that day.  Just a little moment that sort of encapsulates the sweet spirit of our boy.  During the pirate ship races, one of Aiden’s friends got upset that he wasn’t winning.  I was so proud to see Aiden happily slow down to let his friend win, even though I could tell he enjoyed winning himself.  He whispered to me, “Mama, he’s really happy now.  That’s why I let him win, so he wouldn’t be sad.”

Those are the moments where you feel like your heart could burst with pride and joy at the person your little kid is becoming.  I hope he always retains that empathetic quality.
