This is our little apartment, the place we will be living until February, most likely. It’s a far, FAR cry from our spacious, lovely former house. But it is our little (teeny, tiny) nest for the time being, so why not document it here on the ‘ol blog?
We moved here because we needed a place to live while our new home is being built. Also, because it was in a nice area, fairly cheap, and featured some of my must-have appliances:
And it also has a dishwasher. Amen. The kitchen is small but serviceable, and the previous tenants must have trashed the place because we got a brand new range, as well as new carpet.
The place is small (did I mention that already?) and has just two bedrooms, so the kids are bunking together. We went minimalist with our decorating, packing most of our belongings away and bringing the bare essentials here. Thus, Aiden’s mattress-on-the-floor setup, which he actually thinks is pretty cool. It makes for a nice reading spot, too!
Our bedroom is the same way, pretty bare. We managed to squeeze our king bed in there (miracle of miracles) and even squeezed in our PC on a small desk in the corner. The closet is pretty big, so Jason and I can fit all of our clothes in it.
There’s just one bathroom, but it has a really long countertop that extends past the sink, so we can actually get ready in the bathroom at the same time.
We went from about 2500 square feet of living space down to about 900 sf. We are definitely feeling cramped, especially when you add lots of kid toys and two dogs into the mix. The kids seem to have adjusted well, while Jason and I are getting more annoyed with the lack of space as time goes on! Ha. We find that we just keep bumping into each other a lot! Knowing that it’s only temporary and that we get to have a beautiful home built in the meantime makes it manageable.
The one plus? Keeping this place clean is a lot easier because it is so small, despite the efforts of two little hooligans.
Hopefully I will be posting soon about the new home site and telling you that they are breaking ground. I’m told that will happen in the next couple of weeks, as soon as all permits are approved!
oh, the joys of apartment living! We’re in the same boat as our new place is still under construction. can’t wait to find out more about your NEW place! xxx
How exciting! It’s good that you’ve got that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to help you get through the frustrating aspects of 900 square feet!
Can’t wait to see what the new house looks like! I’d feel all the same ways you feel if I lived in an apartment, and it would definitely have to be temporary. Thank goodness you won’t be there too long – and imagine how huge and liberating your new house will feel when you move in! :)
You guys are all troopers! Can’t wait to see the new place in a few months- it will go quickly and before you know it, you’ll be moving in :) Hang in there!!
